Nothing But Christ Crucified!
NABRE
1Corinthians 2
1When I came to you, brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom. 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, 4and my message and my proclamation were not with persuasive [words of] wisdom, but with a demonstration of spirit and power, 5so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.6Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away. 7Rather, we speak God’s wisdom, mysterious, hidden, which God predetermined before the ages for our glory, 8and which none of the rulers of this age knew; for, if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9But as it is written:“What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him,”10 this God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God. 11Among human beings, who knows what pertains to a person except the spirit of the person that is within? Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God.
Matthew 5
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. 15Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. 16Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. 18Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. 19Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 20I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
